The world of Gossip Girl is one of excess, treachery and backstabbing, and it has all the teenage intrigue of its high rating predecessor “The O.C”.
Based around the daily affairs of a group of snooty Upper East Side, New York, teens Gossip Girl is narrated by an omniscient (but unseen) blogger.
At the start of Season One the main character Serena van der Woodsen returns to New York after she mysteriously disappeared to a boarding school the previous year.
Big questions surround both her departure and her return, but Serena is not planning on exposing any of her secrets just yet.
Serena and her best friend, Blair Waldorf, are at the centre of the show but Blair’s boyfriend Nate Archibald and Nate’s buddy Chuck Bass get involved too.
Just to keep things grounded, a couple of middle class kids are thrown into the mix, and it has the effect of making these socialites seem even more removed from reality.
Dan and Jenny Humphrey somehow get caught up in all the drama and strange happenings of Gossip Girl, but viewers tend to relate to them more as the series goes on.
The Gossip Girl DVD for Season One is already available and the Season Two DVD will hit the shelves soon.
